Africa’s largest blogger forum, Africa Bloggers Summit 2025, officially kicked off today. Hosted by the African Youth Union Commission in collaboration with I READ WHAT I LIKE BLOG and YOUTH IN AFRICA, the summit brings together numerous journalists and bloggers from across the continent and beyond. Its main goal is to empower young professionals in the field of journalism, with a strong emphasis on enabling women to become the voice of the voiceless.
In her opening remarks, Ms. Embet Asefa, Deputy Country Director of African Youth Union Commission , stated:
“Journalism is a way of life, and one must always choose the right way to use it. Especially in this era of technological advancement and the rise of AI, people can be easily manipulated. The key to avoiding manipulation is staying true to oneself and not relying excessively on technology for every answer.”
With over 10 years of experience as a media professional, journalist, and lead reporter, Ms. Asefa not only addressed the critical role of technology in modern media but also emphasized the importance of using platforms wisely and responsibly.
Digitalization has reshaped media presentation. Today, countless bloggers use technology to deliver their messages be they political, social, or persuasive. Bloggers play a key role in building the bridge between communities and vast amounts of information. Journalists now cover topics across various platforms such as TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, and, of course, traditional blogs. They have not only become powerful voices for the voiceless but have also shown that information is everywhere and can be easily accessed regardless of one’s environment or background.
