From May 16 to 18, 2025, the Ethiopian Tech Expo 2025 (ETEX 2025), East Africa’s largest technology event, kicked off in spectacular fashion at the Addis Ababa International Convention Center (AICC). The opening ceremony brought together high-level dignitaries, innovators, and tech enthusiasts to witness Ethiopia’s bold stride into the digital age.

A Vision for Digital Transformation
H.E. Taye Atskeselassie, President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, delivered the keynote address, reaffirming the country’s commitment to digital transformation, homegrown innovation, and Africa-led progress.
“Ethiopia is embracing technology as a catalyst for economic growth, youth empowerment, and continental leadership,” President Taye declared. “ETEX 2025 is not just an expo—it’s a movement toward a smarter, more connected Africa.”
Global Cybersecurity Collaboration
The event also spotlighted global cybersecurity challenges, featuring a keynote by Artur Lyukmanov, Director of the Department of International Information Security at Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“For over 20 years, Russia has been advocating for a United Nations-led convention to counter cybercrime, with support from 78 nations including Ethiopia and the majority of African countries,” Lyukmanov stated. “The latest draft, negotiated in August 2024, aims to combat malicious cyber actors, criminal networks, deepfake threats, and terrorist activities. We remain committed to strengthening this framework to address emerging digital threats.”
A Night of Innovation and National Pride
The ETEX 2025 Gala Dinner dazzled attendees with the largest drone light show in African history, illuminating the night sky in a mesmerizing blend of light, innovation, and Ethiopian pride. The breathtaking spectacle set the tone for a week of cutting-edge exhibitions, startup pitches, AI showcases, and fintech breakthroughs.
