

On June 5, 2025, H.E. Ms. Nataša Pirc Musar, President of Slovenia, visited Ethiopia to discuss bilateral cooperation and joint efforts in technology, agriculture, and international diplomacy.
Slovenia declared its independence and left the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia on June 25, 1991. In a referendum held on December 23, 1990, 88.2% of the Slovenian electorate voted for independence. In 1992, Slovenia started its first diplomatic relations with Ethiopia by opening its embassy in Addis Ababa, while the Ethiopian embassy covering Slovenia is located in Vienna, Austria.
President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, H.E. Taye Astke-Selassie, had a brief conversation with H.E. Ms. Nataša Pirc Musar on the expansion of Artificial Intelligence and Space Science. In addition, President Taye emphasized the importance of inclusive international cooperation, affirming that both nations cooperate within international organizations such as the United Nations and the African Union, focusing on global issues like development and technological advancement. President Taye also expressed appreciation for cooperation in urban agriculture and beekeeping to support Ethiopia’s food self-sufficiency efforts, which shows Slovenia’s balanced approach to Africa.
H.E. Ms. Nataša Pirc Musar discussed how the United Nations Security Council could play a more effective role in strengthening the geopolitical issues of Africa, as Slovenia is a non-permanent member state. President Musar reaffirmed a promising statement that Slovenia fully supports Ethiopia by expanding cooperation in several sectors such as pharmaceuticals, water management, and artificial intelligence. On her part, H.E. Ms. Nataša Pirc Musar described the discussions as productive and reaffirmed Slovenia’s support for Africa’s proposal for a permanent seat on the UNSC.
