On May 29, 2025, something truly powerful happened in Addis Ababa. At the heart of the city, the Golden Tulip Hotel became a vibrant space for cultural exchange, intergenerational conversation, and hope as Redeem the Generation hosted the “Living Together in Peace” forum a full-day gathering dedicated to unity, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence.
The forum opened with a warm and compelling address from Mr. Melaku Sibhat, Executive Director of Redeem the Generation, who captured the essence of the day in his remarks:“In a world facing increasing polarization, events like this remind us that our diversity is not a weakness but a strength. This forum is a space to listen, to learn, and to commit ourselves to the everyday practice of peace.”
Art as a Bridge to Understanding
As attendees entered, they were greeted by a moving gallery walk and video showcase. The visuals told stories of peace, struggle, hope, and healing all through the lens of local artists and creatives. It wasn’t just for show. People were encouraged to vote on their favorite pieces, sparking conversations that often continued into the next room. It was clear: art speaks when words fall short.
Talking Peace, Living Peace
The rest of the day unfolded in rich thematic sessions led by experts, community leaders, and changemakers. These discussions dove into real-world challenges : how do we live together in harmony? How do we embrace differences in our communities? And how can intercultural dialogue help us build a more sustainable future? Participants didn’t just listen. They engaged. They questioned. They connected.
Youth Voices Take Center Stage
One of the most powerful moments came during the “Voices for Peace” session, led by the Youth Council. Young people from across Addis Ababa and beyond shared their personal stories, definitions of peace, and hopes for a better future. There was emotion. There was truth. There was power.
One young speaker said it best:
“We’re not waiting for the future ,we’re shaping it now.”
A Day to Remember , A Mission to Continue
What made the Living Together in Peace forum stand out wasn’t just the content it was the spirit. There was no hierarchy of voices, no borders between communities. Just a shared belief in something bigger: that peace is possible when we listen to each other, learn from each other, and act together.
As someone who has covered peace events around the world, I can honestly say this one was special. It wasn’t a ceremony. It was a conversation ,one that many of us will carry forward long after the chairs are packed up and the artwork comes down.
Kudos to Redeem the Generation and every participant who showed up not just to talk about peace but to live it.
