

Ethiopia launched the Global Health Innovation & Quality Summit 2025, a milestone three-day event being held in Addis Ababa from June 25–27. The summit, under the theme “Leveraging Health Innovation Towards Achieving Universal Health Coverage,” has drawn global experts, policymakers, innovators, and development partners to explore how technology and system innovation can accelerate healthcare equity and access.
National Leadership at the Forefront
Opening the summit, H.E. Ms. Shearla Abdullahi, State Minister of Health, emphasized Ethiopia’s commitment to scaling health innovations as part of its drive toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC). She highlighted the country’s progress in digital health, AI, and public health infrastructure.

A Model for Africa
Organized by Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health with the support of WHO and UNICEF, this is the first summit of its kind hosted in Ethiopia. It aims to become a continental platform for exchanging best practices in digital health, health system reform, and quality assurance in healthcare delivery.
