

H.E. Ambassador Eshete Tilahun and Deputy Head of Mission Ambassador Fortuna Dibaco participated in the annual joint meeting of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) and the European Investment Bank (EIB), held on Tuesday, 24 June 2025, in Luxembourg.
The platform aimed to provide opportunities for OACPS Ambassadors and EIB officials and representatives to deliberate on strategic exchanges regarding matters of mutual interest and shared concerns, fostering cooperation between member countries in various fields, including trade, development, and climate change. The Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States, in collaboration with the European Investment Bank, aims to promote sustainable development, inclusive growth, and enhance the well-being of communities by providing essential support for capacity building.

Thematic discussions, including those led by the President of the European Investment Bank, H.E. Nadia Calviño, and Vice President Ambroise Fayolle, proved to be fruitful. Exchanges focused on charting the way forward and clarifying key topics and relevant priorities of the European Union’s Global Gateway initiative, EIB financing modalities, and partner countries helped to address a number of issues.
Representing the Ministry of Finance of Ethiopia, H.E. Ambassador Hirut Zemene strongly emphasized the need to enhance solidarity, promote trade access and value addition, and explore ways and means of resource mobilization in addressing challenges across OACPS member states. Ambassadors and European Investment Bank representatives examined how the EU’s Global Gateway initiative with its objectives to invest in global infrastructure, digitalization, energy, transport, health, and education can be implemented while embracing transparency and inclusivity. They also underscored the importance of value addition in critical raw materials and strengthening cooperation to tackle shared challenges and seize opportunities. Furthermore, they discussed the next steps for deepening collaboration between the European Investment Bank and ACP countries to achieve meaningful results that will help make their part of the world a better place.
