

The 4th Ethiopia Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program (EFELTP) Scientific Conference officially opened on July 2nd at the Adwa Victory Memorial Museum in Addis Ababa. Themed “Public Health in a Rapidly Changing World: The Role of Field Epidemiology Workforce in Health Sector Transformation,” the event brings together government officials, scientists, academic experts, and global public health leaders to shape the future of disease prevention and response systems.
Organized by the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and international partners, the four-day conference runs from July 1–4, 2025. High-Level Participation and Key Remarks .The opening ceremony featured participation and keynote addresses from several senior national and international figures, including:

- H.E. Mrs. Seharla Abdulahi, State Minister, MoH
- Dr. Mesay Hailu, Director General, EPHI
- Mr. Kora Tushene, State Minister, Ministry of Education
- Mr. Assegid Samuel, Learning & Evaluation Officer (LEO), HRDI, Ministry of Health
Their statements underscored Ethiopia’s commitment to strengthening its health surveillance systems through trained field epidemiologists and institutional partnerships. International Experts Emphasize Collaboration Keynotes were also delivered by prominent global leaders in public health:

The conference includes over 60 oral and poster sessions showcasing applied field research on: Malaria surveillance, pandemic response ,health system digitization ,emergency outbreak management ,mental health integration .Sessions are moderated by field experts and evaluated by senior academic and institutional leaders.
Panel Reflection and Cultural Engagement
A dedicated panel explored EFELTP’s contributions to health system resilience, featuring experts from MoH, EPHI, AFENET, CDC, and major universities. Attendees also toured the Adwa Victory Memorial Museum and participated in a traditional cultural dinner hosted by the Ministry of Health.
Conclusion and Awards
The conference will conclude on July 4 with an official closing ceremony and an award presentation recognizing excellence in field-based epidemiological research and innovation.
