Sudan’s Al-Burhan and Egypt’s El-Sisi Discuss Post-War Reconstruction and Water Security in Cairo.

Sudanese leader General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held talks in Cairo on April 28,2025 discussions centered on Sudan’s post-war reconstruction and water security, according to official statements from both countries.

El-Sisi welcomed al-Burhan at Cairo International Airport before hosting him at the Ittihadiya Presidential Palace for an official reception. The meeting was followed by closed-door and expanded discussions involving high-level delegations from both nations.
As reported by the Sudan Tribune
In a statement, Sudan’s Sovereign Council said the talks aimed to strengthen bilateral relations and explore ways to enhance “joint cooperation across various fields.” Discussions also addressed Egypt’s potential role in supporting Sudan’s post-war recovery and reconstruction efforts following the extensive damage caused by the conflict.

The two sides agreed to advance joint projects, including electricity interconnection, railway development, and trade expansion, alongside cooperation in health, agriculture, industry, and mining to foster deeper integration.

The statement highlighted the Sudanese military’s recent gains, particularly in reclaiming control of the capital, Khartoum. Both leaders stressed the urgent need to “intensify efforts to provide essential support and assistance to Sudanese civilians affected by the war.

Additionally, al-Burhan and El-Sisi exchanged views on regional issues, with a focus on the Nile Basin and the Horn of Africa. They reaffirmed their commitment to continued coordination to “safeguard the water security of both nations.”

The Sudanese delegation included Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Hussein al-Amin, General Intelligence Service Director Ahmed Ibrahim Mufaddal, Intelligence Authority Director Mohammed Ali Sabir, and Sudan’s Ambassador to Egypt, Imad Eddin Adawi.
