Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – In a vibrant display of unity commemoration, and international friendship, employees of the Embassy of the Russian Federation, the Russian House, and the Trade Representation of Russia in Ethiopia proudly participated in the Ethiopia Tamirt (Made in Ethiopia) Run, a 10 kilometer race organized by the Ministry of Industry of Ethiopia.

Held in the heart of Addis Ababa, the event brought together runners from across the country and international communities to celebrate Ethiopia’s industrial achievements and promote the spirit of national pride. The Russian delegation’s participation highlighted the deepening ties between Ethiopia and Russia, grounded not only in diplomatic and economic cooperation but also in shared values and cultural solidarity.

The race took on additional historical significance as it coincided with the 80th anniversary of Victory Day  a momentous date marking the defeat of Nazi Germany and the end of the Second World War in Europe. To honor this occasion, Russian participants wore the symbolic black-and-orange St. George ribbons, universally recognized as a mark of remembrance and valor. At both the opening and closing of the race, the Victory Banner  a replica of the flag raised over the Reichstag in May 1945  and the national flag of Russia were ceremoniously unfurled.

These symbols served not only as a tribute to those who gave their lives for peace but also as a reminder of the enduring relevance of unity and resilience in the face of adversity. The fusion of commemoration and celebration underscored the importance of remembering the past while building partnerships for the future.

The participation of Russian institutions in such a nationally significant event reflects the longstanding friendship between Russia and Ethiopia  a relationship built on mutual respect, historical support, and a shared vision for progress and peace.

As the runners crossed the finish line, they not only celebrated physical achievement but also reaffirmed the strong human bonds that underpin diplomatic engagement. Through culture, remembrance, and sport, Russia and Ethiopia continue to stride forward  together.
